Unwrite the past.
Rewrite the future.

Unwritten uses modern laser technology and evidence-informed scar-revision techniques to help people move beyond tattoos, scars, and other visible marks tied to incarceration, gang involvement, domestic violence, trafficking, and other traumatic experiences.

The Idea

What happened in the past doesn't have to define what comes next.

Moving forward doesn't always mean every reminder of the past disappears. For some people, a scar from violence or a tattoo connected to exploitation, gang involvement, or another difficult period remains visible long after their circumstances have changed.

IAM Unwritten is being developed by IAM Radiance to make specialized services — such as scar revision and tattoo removal — accessible to individuals who are working to move forward from those experiences.

IAM Unwritten is currently in the development and funding stage. Our immediate focus is building a responsible program structure, securing appropriate funding, forming community referral partnerships, and creating clear systems for delivering, documenting, and evaluating care before the program formally launches.

How We Help

A path built on three pillars

Unwritten isn't a stand-alone clinic — it's a community partner, connecting people to trusted local organizations while providing the medical treatment that helps them move forward without old marks holding them back.

Partner

We work alongside organizations already serving people in recovery, reentry, domestic-violence support, and trafficking survivors — functioning as a referral resource within an existing network of trusted care.

Treat

Medical-grade laser tattoo removal and evidence-informed scar revision, delivered under appropriate medical and safety protocols, with plans built around each person's goals.

Reintegrate

Recovery is the process of building a different life — and visible reminders of a former one shouldn't stand in the way of self-image, relationships, or employment.

Who We Hope to Serve

Built for people rebuilding their lives in Central Washington

IAM Unwritten is being developed for individuals in Central Washington who may benefit from restorative treatment as part of moving forward from difficult life circumstances, including:

Survivors of domestic violence

Survivors of human trafficking

Individuals leaving gang involvement

Individuals reentering the community after incarceration

Veterans and others carrying scars or tattoos connected to traumatic experiences

Unsheltered individuals

Rather than beginning with a broad population, we're considering domestic violence survivors as an initial focus. The final population and eligibility criteria will be established as the program structure and funding strategy develop.

Our Mission

Helping people move beyond the visible reminders of trauma

Scars and unwanted tattoos can remain long after difficult circumstances have changed. Research links visible scars to quality-of-life and psychosocial impacts, and links tattoo removal to improved employment outcomes, family relationships, and sustained recovery.

Through community referrals and philanthropic funding, eligible participants would receive individualized restorative care — including laser tattoo removal, scar revision and resurfacing, and other clinically appropriate restorative treatments.

IAM Unwritten helps make this kind of care accessible to people who may otherwise be unable to afford it.

"To help people move beyond the visible reminders of trauma and difficult life experiences by providing access to specialized restorative care — so the past does not have to define what comes next."

Proposed Services

Care built around individual need

Services would be based on individual need, clinical appropriateness, and the scope of available funding, and may include:

Laser Tattoo Removal

Reducing or removing tattoos connected to exploitation, gang involvement, incarceration, or other difficult chapters, using modern laser technology.

Scar Revision & Resurfacing

Fractional laser, radiofrequency microneedling, and other resurfacing techniques to reduce the visibility of scars from violence or trauma.

Treatment of Visible Skin Changes

Addressing other visible skin changes associated with past trauma, evaluated individually for clinical appropriateness.

Restorative Aesthetic Care

Limited restorative aesthetic treatments, offered when appropriate to a participant's goals and the scope of the program.

How it works: Each participant would receive an individual clinical assessment before treatment. Treatment plans are based on each person's needs and clinical circumstances — not a predetermined package of services.

Your history doesn't have to show.

Treatment is offered at little or no cost to qualifying participants, made possible through community and philanthropic support. Reach out to start the conversation — no pressure, no cost to ask.
